HOCKEY IS BACK IN SACHEM!

SYAG Dek Hockey will play its inaugural season this fall! We will have two divisions: 5-11 years old and 12-16 years old. Players must be 5 years old by October 1, 2025, with NO exceptions. No prior experience is needed. Players will register based on their birth year. January 2009 thru December 2013 dates of birth play in the 12-16 division. January 2014 thru October 2020 play in the 5-11 division.

Registration is $125 per player. The season will be approximately 15 weeks long. Each team will play in 10 regular season games, 2 mini-tournaments, and double elimination playoffs. The mini tournaments will be a Turkey Tournament and a Holiday Tournament.

Games will be played on Saturdays at the outdoor Sports Arena Rinks - 425 Hawkins Rd, Selden. The rinks are behind the Hawkins Path Elementary School at the corner of Hawkins Rd / Boyle Rd. The two parking lots on either side street are for Middle Country Athletic Complex (on Hawkins Rd) and Veterans Ballfield Park (on Boyle Rd).   The games will be outdoors and will not be cancelled for cold weather except for extreme and dangerous temperatures. It is not uncommon to play in the low 30s / upper 20s.

The first game of the day will begin at 9:00 am, with subsequent games beginning every 1 hour and 15 minutes later. For example, 9:00am, 10:15am, 11:30am, 12:45pm, etc. The games will consist of three (3) 18-minute periods. Each team will consist of three "lines." Line 1 will be the more experienced players, and they will only play against the other team's 1st line. Line 2 against line 2, and line 3 against line 3. This ensures that players will play against others with similar abilities. We will not accept requests for teams that only play at certain times of the day.

After registration, all players will be required to attend a ratings day. The date/time for ratings day will be announced in a few weeks. If you cannot attend ratings day, we will try to schedule a makeup day. This is a “draft league” based on ratings. To ensure that all teams are balanced and have similar skill levels across each line, players will first be placed on teams based on their ratings. Only after players are rated will we try to honor requests. Please go into this with the mindset that your request will most likely NOT BE HONORED and you won’t be disappointed. Requests, when able to be fulfilled, are honored on a first-come, first served basis until a team has reached its capacity. We understand that many of our coaches have a dedicated following, however, to keep well balanced teams, we must limit the number of players assigned to each roster. We will not honor or accommodate requests for specific days, locations, or times.

All players MUST provide their own equipment consisting of the following:

·        Helmet with full cage

·        Elbow pads

·        Gloves

·        Shin guards

·        Stick

·        Sneakers

Goalies must also have their own equipment. Players who volunteer to be a goalie, who are selected as goalie, and who play the entire season as goalie will receive a 25% discount / partial refund following the season.
